'In every sense' aims to promote and support accessibility to the arts to deaf and deafblind people. Focusing on a multi sensorial approach to museum access we will provide training and consultancy to increase access to communication and visual arts.

Have we achieved the improvements the Council of Europe has been calling for since 1992?

"Government institutions, leisure and cultural organisations should develop comprehensive access policies and action programmes designed to significant and lasting improvements for all people with disabilities"

Cultural freedom

Most people take cultural freedoms for granted. Many deaf and disabled people do not visit museums because there can be many barriers to accessing them. For example, attitudes of staff, lack of awareness about access, limited or few resources in Sign Language or Braille. Museum tours are often not interpreted into Sign Language, or support and training is not available to deaf tour guides.

In every sense

Accessing art, culture and history is more than just looking! We appreciate art through all of our senses. To understand and experience art in language and form we understand is vital to our relationship with it.

Art interpretation

Interpretation is interaction between museums and galleries and people who visit them. How we look at art work, learn about culture and history and their context is important to how we interact with art. It helps us develop a sense of aesthetics - of what we like and dislike - and also a sense of culture and history. For deaf and deafblind children this is a particularly important aspect of learning about themselves and the world around them.
