While two deaf Italians each year have the extraordinary opportunity to study abroad, there are many others who have the desire to make a significant contribution to future generations of deaf and deaf-blind children. To reach a larger number of potential impact-makers, the MPDF has always recognized this need and has a large professional training program in Italy for deaf and hearing people who work with those children.
By inviting experts from abroad to give intensive-training workshops in their fields of study, we have given Italian people the opportunity to gain a stronger foothold in their professional growth. During these workshops, the teacher and participants bring their respective knowledge and experience to share not only during the workshop sessions but also during the evening interactions. This retreat-style workshop idea in which the participants work, eat, and sleep together is essential in forming a dynamic work environment thanks to its intensity, and also allows for larger amounts of work to be done in briefer periods. They also bring together people from all over Italy who otherwise work in isolation and gives them the opportunity to exchange ideas. With such a wide variety of opinions, everybody can have a part in creating progress for the future of deaf and deaf-blind people.
These workshops are usually organised in collaboration with the Italian National Association of the Deaf, The Istituto dei Sordomuti of Rome, Gallaudet University, and other relevant associations. |
